Generally, when setting up a new device you’ll need to run through the following checklist to ensure that the device is ready for end users:
- Turn on the device and follow the prompts to connect to WiFi, calibrate, etc.
- Sign in with work account (or personal)
- If multiple people use the same device, and you are not concerned about security:
- Skip iris sign in
- Set up a pin
- Open “Settings” > “Accounts” > “Sign-in options”. Change “Require sign in” to “Never”
- Open “Settings” > “System” > “Calibration”. Under “Display color calibration”, tap “Run color calibration”. Follow the prompts to create a color profile for your device.
- Open “Settings” > “Update and Security” > “For Developers”
- Enable “Use developer features”
- Enable “Device discovery”
- Enable “Device portal”. Note the IP address under “Device Portal” for use in the following step.
- Connect to your HoloLens IP address in a web browser.
- To access your IP
- If you gave permission to use Speech Commands say ‘Whats my IP’, and a text pop up will appear with the details
- If you denied Speech commands, then go to “Settings” . View hardware and connection properties and search for the lumber listed under IPv4, ignoring anything listed after ‘/’
- Note you may receive a ‘Connection is not private’ warning, click on Advanced and proceed
- Request a PIN and set up an easy-to-remember username and password, and pair the device.
- Enter your username and password on the desktop browser prompt that will pop up
- Via the device portal (browser) under “ System” > “Research Mode”, check “Allow access to sensor streams”. Don’t restart the headset just yet.
- Under “System” > “Preferences”
- Change the sleep settings to 10 minutes on battery.
- Give your device a name. When prompted, restart the device.
